Become a Raiders Trustee

As part of our ongoing review of our strategic operations, we are looking to replace a number of vacant roles within the Trustee Board of Berkhamsted Raiders, following the departures of Alison Spencer (Head of Girls Trustee), Joanna Conway (Welfare Trustee) and Clive Bentley (Independent Trustee) over the last 12 months. We would like to tham them all for their years of dedication and service to the club and the children who play football week in, week out. We are therefore looking for three Trustees who can contribute to the continued success of Raiders. The deadline for applications is Sunday 31st March. A description of the roles is provided below. These are unpaid, volunteer roles.

Trustee – Head of Girls Football

Role and Responsibilities

  • Align and develop Raider’s strategy with The FA’s Women’s and Girl’s strategy “Inspiring Positive Change (2023 Update)” and Hertfordshire FA’s 3-year plan
  • Representation: Increase female participation as Managers, Assistant Managers, Age Group Coordinators, Referees, and Match Day Delegates
  • Partnerships: Develop relationships with key stakeholders within the National FA and Herts FA
  • Recruitment: Double girls’ participation, increasing from 250 to 500 female playing members.
  • Lead our strategic relationships with Club Academies to ensure opportunities for elite pathways for players and for Raiders to take advantage of co-operative opportunities.
  • Work alongside the Head of Boys Trustee to support the Head of Coaching to evaluate and continually improve the girls coaching proposition.
  • Guide and advise the respective Phase Leads for non-competitive and competitive football to ensure that all age groups are effectively run and comply with the published guidelines
  • Build and maintain relationships with local schools to drive recruitment into the Club for each new season including taster sessions for new season.
  • Work with partner clubs to provide a senior pathway for Girls as they move on from U18s.
  • Be an active member of the Senior Leadership Team, attend Trustee meetings and events and contribute to the overall Trustee responsibility for best practice management and proactive representation of the Club in the community. Take responsibility for personal conflicts of interests and declare, record and manage these appropriately.

Trustee – Welfare

Role and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Club welfare team.
  • Oversee a safeguarding policy that meets the standards required by law, and the National and County Football Associations.
  • Ensure the Club’s safeguarding policies are reviewed every 12 months.
  • Identify the requirement for and training of Club Welfare Officers.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of procedures needed to manage complaints concerning welfare matters.
  • Oversee and advise where necessary, the handling by Club Welfare Officers of any welfare related complaints made about the club by external parties, by the club about external parties or within the club.
  • With the Club Welfare Officers, develop processes for the management of and reporting on mandatory training and DBS clearances required by those who are regularly caring for, supervising, training or being in sole charge of children and young people.
  • Attend Club meetings and the AGM, as required, and report on Club welfare
  • Take responsibility for personal conflicts of interests and declare, record and manage these appropriately.
  • Attend Trustee meetings and contribute to the overall Trustee responsibility for best practice management of the Club.

Trustee – Independent

Role and Responsibilities

  • Advise the Trustee Board on appropriate business and commercial practice..
  • Provide impartial advice and support on range of Raiders strategic projects to ensure in keeping with Raiders strategic vision and charitable mission and objectives
  • Take responsibility as final point of escalation for any complaints as part of formal complaint management process
  • Attend Trustee meetings and contribute to the overall Trustee responsibility for best practice management of the Club.
  • The ideal candidate would have no current formal connection to Berkhamsted Raiders ie manager, volunteer, parent of player.
