Raiders Senior Futsal Team

Raiders Senior Futsal Team on their league debut against the talented Brazilians of Brazuca

In November 2017, Raiders set up their first Senior Futsal team for players over 16. They now play every Friday in The Herts Futsal 5s Hemel League. The team is the first step in making Raiders one of the leading forces in this exciting sport.

For the uninitiated, Futsal is the fast and furious FIFA sanctioned version of 5-a-side football. It is played with a ball designed not to bounce and goals are the same shape and size as hockey goals. The ball can go out of play and has to be delivered back on to the court within 4 seconds.

Our ultimate aim is to get a Raiders team into the National Futsal Leagues, with the top of the pyramid being the Super League, where one ex-Raider currently plays for one of the strongest teams in the country. The sport is now so well developed that it has regular European Championships and World Cups with England ranked approximately 40th in the world and rising fast.

In Spain, the strongest teams (Barcelona & Movistar) are fully professional and regularly play in front of crowds of 20,000 people. Clearly, we have some work to do to catch up but we would like Raiders to play their part in the revolution.

Junior Futsal

In their early years, Raiders players get introduced to Futsal during their Saturday morning and Monday night training. From U9, they have the opportunity to join the mixed Raiders Futsal Development sessions on Wednesday evenings in the Sports Hall at Ashlyns.

The sessions take players through the basic skills, tactics and techniques that are used in the game of Futsal. As players progress they may get the opportunity to be involved in matches with other Futsal clubs, FA County Festivals and to progress to the upper levels of the junior game. We are currently in discussion with the FA about running a Futsal league at Ashlyns, into which we would naturally enter Raiders teams. In some areas of the country, and we will push for this locally, leagues have a Winter break where Sunday fixtures are replaced by Futsal festivals.

Wednesday sessions are mixed age, gender and ability and run for an hour at 5pm and 6pm, coached by Futsal qualified familiar Raiders coaches. No previous experience is required but pretty soon there will be a waiting list until we can secure further indoor facilities.
